May Use-It-Up !

Who else gets excited when they finish up a product? There is something satisfying about seeing a product completely empty after it has been well-used and enjoyed. Some things suck to repurchase, because they're expensive, but as a beauty blogger I am constantly trying new brands and new things, so while I do have some staple products, usually emptying a container means trying something NEW :)
Here are my May empties:
Products I used up in May '12

I did spend a weekend away this month, so I used up lots of travel sized products!
The Ojon Shampoo and Conditioner samples I received in my ebeauty birthday bag were nice, but to me, shampoo is shampoo and I am not loyal to any brand. I wouldn't repurchase because this high-end brand is out of the price range I am willing to spend on hair care!

My sample sized bareMinerals purifying facial cleanser was very nice- it is a gentle cleanser with little scent. I liked it, but I have an arsenal of cleansers to try and wouldn't repurchase this one any time soon. However, I do love this brand, so if you're looking for a simple facial cleanser, this one might be worth checking out.

I used up the Mario Badescu eye cream I got in my sample package. This eye cream is supposed to lock in the skins natural moisture while being light weight. I found it to be very sticky and heavy, personally. I am picky with eye creams. I wouldn't repurchase, but I did try to make an order for skincare from Mario Badescu and was highly disappointed in their Canadian shipping prices! They will not offer Canadians any shipping discounts when they offer 'free' shipping to Americans, and only send Canadian packages via 2-day fedex which is hugely expensive! I even emailed the company asking if they would be willing to send my package via USPS so I wouldn't have to pay so much in shipping and they didn't bother to respond to me. Not impressed.

I finally finished my MAC peachy keen blush- I've had this for YEARS and wear it daily. I love blushes because they're such a great investment- mine last forever. I would definitely repurchase this blush, but I am contemplating branching out and trying some new blush brands, like benefit and tarte.

My Body Shop Tea Tree cleanser sample was an absolute hit. It lasted me 5 months! I purchased a full-sized bottle back in February and haven't had to crack it yet! So I've already re-purchased this awesome cleanser for acne-prone skin.

I finished up a sample sized Dove conditioner, which was fine but nothing special. I don't really like Dove as a brand. I would not repurchase.

My simple facial cleansing wipes were amazing and I have already bought another package which I'm half way through! I love using these for travel as they're super easy and low maintenance. They're unscented, very gentle and a decent size.

Finally, I finished off my current jar of LUSH Rub Rub Rub shower scrub! This is a staple product for me- I cannot go without it! Check out my review on it here to see why you need it in your life as well! I will absolutely be repurchasing this exfoliator.

There you go, my empties for May! On to June, hurray :)

  1. I also used up a sample of that Dove conditioner which was OK, I loved the thick texture but since it's not cruelty-free, I'm not repurchasing. I can't believe you have actually use dup a blush! Awesome!

    1. I know, this is the first blush I think I've ever finished! and like I said, I used it daily for YEARS! Sad to see it go, but excited to buy a new one!
I agree about Dove- I will not buy from them.

    1. haha I know right! I've been doing well, truckin' through things. I think having an 'empties' post actually encourages me to finish products before starting new ones which is a GOOD thing.

    1. mmm with Ocean Salt, if I start to get low I will order more before it is gone because I CANNOT go without it. Rub Rub Rub I can last without for a small amount of time as I have other exfoliating soaps that I use in the shower too.

  5. Have you tried the shoppers brand for facial wipes? I always use those.. if you have.. are the Simple Wipes better?

    1. Is it the Life brand or Quo? Either way, I haven't tried them! I've used kaia, simple and TBS tea tree cleansing cloths. I liked the tea tree ones best but they're more expensive. I bought Simple because it was on sale, and then I repurchased at full price because they're still cheaper than TBS and I like them! Try them out when you see them on sale next and see? :)

  7. I have always wanted to try the facial cleansing wipes. Even though I use an eye makeup remover and a cleanser to wash off my makeup, still feel the makeup is not entirely off. Would you recommend this brand over Neutrogena?

    1. I definitely recommend this brand! They're very gentle and reasonably priced. I personally would pick them over neutrogena because they're 'more' natural, although they do still have parabens. However, the jury is still out on parabens and how safe or unsafe they are, so I am not overly concerned by them. LUSH has some great statements on why they believe parabens are safer than most of the alternatives. Parabens are found naturally in many foods we eat.

  8. Oh yay! I love these posts! For Mario Badescu, try getting it from yesstyle.ca There is free shipping over $150 which is still a lot, but maybe team up with a friend? That's what I did!

    1. well I am a bit of a LUSHie but not all of their products are perfect- for example, I reviewed their spot treatment for acne which doesn't work AT ALL. It was a total waste of $$.

  10. Ouch that sucks about the Mario Badescu shipping! Interesting that they can send the samples by USPS but they can't send paid for products in the same way!
Great empties :) I highly recommend NARS blushes, but I've also heard amazing things about the Tarte ones as well!

    1. I agree- they should be willing to send their products in a cheaper format to Canadians; otherwise they are missing out on a huge market! Seems like a stupid move on their part.
I will check out the NARS blushes too, thanks!

  12. I love to see these posts, I think you can really give a better idea of how much you like something when you've used a decent amount of it x :-)

    1. oh absolutely! I think you need to use a product consistently for a minimum of a month to know if it actually works or not, but even longer is better!

  15. It's fun, fun, funnnn to get to the bottom. It is for girls like us who have way more products than a Shopper's right? hehehe

BTW, where did you purchase the "simple" wipes?

    ReplyDelete

    1. HAHAH yes exactly. we have to move onto other things in our stash and the best way to do that without feeling guilty is to use up the current things!!

I bought my simple facial cleansing wipes at Zehrs (Loblaws) but they sell them at Shoppers too I think.

    2. Ok, thanks. I nevvver go into Superstore! But, last I did I was amazzzed at their huge makeup section. I'll have to remember to give them another chance. It used to be really grody in ALL of our Superstores (loblaws)

BTW, I haven't heard anything did you receive the Julep nail polish?? It's been almost 2 weeks...so hope so!

      Delete
    3. no I didn't get the Julep polish yet ! I was just thinking about it today. Did you send it with tracking #?

      Delete
    4. Hmm..I don't think I still have the receipt...I didn't specify tracking, do they automatically do tracking? I have another dupe of that colour I'll pop in the mail tomorrow when the first (or second?) arrives you can keep it to add to one of your giveaways. I'm annoyed, because it's silly how much it costs to send a small package, it's almost more worthwhile to send a bigger one. :/

      Delete
    5. oh don't you dare ship out another one! I am sure it is on its way, it just seems to be taking a while! I don't want you to have to pay for a 2nd shipment though. How long ago was it sent? I hope it didn't get lost.

  21. How would you compare the Simple Wipes to Kaia's?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. apples to oranges! Simple are larger, unscented and less damp. Kaia's are strongly scented, small and very moist. I like the Simple ones better.

    1. I only use one product at a time, so I truck through things quickly! For example, I won't have more than one body cream on the go. That way I use up what I've started before cracking a new product open :)

  23. Ooh I'm glad to see your positive review of the Simple facial cleansing wipes. I have been looking for a product like this for pre and post gym.
