NOTD: Essie's Turquoise & Caicos + a Shopper's Drugmart Haul

I made a little Shopper's Drugmart haul the other day, and I thought I'd show you all what I picked up!

Essie Turquoise and Caicos

This turquoise Essie polish goes on very streaky. What you see here is three thick coats. I wasn't impressed with the formula on this one, and I am not a huge fan of Essie's applicator brushes either.
I purchased another bottle of my go-to perfume, Prada Candy. I just cannot get enough of this delicious scent! I also got three benefit products for my Mom for Mother's Day! I am a huge fan of benefit as a brand, and all three of these products have been raved about on the blogosphere so I figured Mom would love them.
The porefessional is a pore minimizer that is slightly tinted. I love the packaging. It is supposed to go on very silky smooth and even out skin tone while diminishing the look of pores! 'They're Real!' is a newer mascara from benefit, and everyone seems to be a huge fan of the applicator and the quality of the mascara, so I had to get one for mom! I also got her a pot of benefits IT'S POTENT! eye cream, but she told me she's had a reaction to it in the past so it'll have to be exchanged for another product of her liking.

I also got some clarins samples and a few benefit samples! The lovely SA at Shoppers was much more generous with samples than my local Sephora- I may have to start shopping at Shoppers more often for cosmetics!

  1. The Essie colour still looks great (even if it didn't apply very well). It's funny about the samples - especially because we are paying for them in beauty boxes :) I got to get me down to shoppers and talk to someone at the cosmetics counter!

    1. yes I paid at the cosmetics counter and the lady had tons of samples available! she hooked me up huge, and she was so kind and helpful. I had a great experience at this particular location. Not all Shoppers have such great staff though, I know from experience.

  2. It's too bad about the formula on the essie polish the color is quite pretty. Great haul.

    2. I bet I hate it when polishes are streaky.

  3. Wow great haul! I NEVER get samples at my Shopper's! I also always feel like I'm being watched in Shopper's, like I can't just browse by myself. I still shop there all the time though lol I just put up with the sales people!

    1. I paid at the cosmetics counter, I don't think they give out samples at the main cash registers! Maybe ask next time, like you would at Sephora? I have noticed lately that my Sephora has been stingy with samples and I have to ask and even then, I usually just get a one-use packet of something when I can see lots of good bigger sized samples in the bins too! why do they care? they should be more generous, if I like a sample I will be back to buy a full-sized one and give them more business!

    2. I usually pay at the cosmetics counter! I agree, if I worked there I'd be giving out tons of samples!

    1. I totally want to buy a tube of 'they're real' for myself, but I have a bunch of other mascara I have to use up before I can allow it! haha.

  5. I found the same thing with Essie's Fiji! The color is gorgeous but it takes many coats to even it out. The color you picked up is soo nice though:)
Yumm Prada candy,I absolutely loveeee it, the scent is so delicious and sweet.

P.s) I go to Shoppers so much so I will start asking the cosmetics counter for some samples haha, I never knew they gave them out.

    1. Yes, it seems like some Essie polishes don't have great formulas. I much prefer OPI as its consistently good. I actually find my elf polish formulas to apply better and last just as long as Essie.
Ooh definitely start asking for samples at the cosmetics counter! they have tons!

  6. Awesome haul! I love that nail polish, I've definately had my eye on it for a while...and Prada candy is my go to scent as well! Porefessional is amazing...its my favourite primer :)

I hope you got 20x the points during their beauty offer last week ;)

  7. I could have gone shopping with you at Shoppers Drug Mart. I wanted to get the PoreFessional and the eye cream so bad. I ended up getting the They're real mascara and a sugarbomb blush. I also looked at the Essie nail polish but I bought the Loreal Riche color nail polish (similar turquoise) and I find it so hard to apply. Very streaky as well.

  9. I find that the Essie formula is very hit and miss - more miss than hit. The colors I purchase always seem to need at least 3 coats.

You will LOVE PoreFessional. I got a sample of it from my local Sephora and in the Top box and I can't stop using it!!! I find it really helps control the oil.

    Fantastic haul!

    1. yes, for the price of an Essie polish I would rather purchase OPI because I find the quality to be much more consistent! I think that Essie polishes are so cute though, haha. I'm a sucker for packaging!
I got the porefessional for my mom, but I will ask for a sample of it at Sephora next time I'm in. Did they have it as a 100 point redemption, or just as a free sample?

    1. yes the cosmetics counter girl was wonderful and hooked me up with five different samples! I was like, "Sephora who--?" ! haha. I tried using the sunbeam on my brow bone, I am not much good with highlighers and think I need help to learn how to use one properly.

  12. Nice haul! I don't buy cosmetics at Shoppers that often, and when I do, it's usually one or two things at a time that are drugstore brands on sale. I haven't bought anything in a while as I am trying to finish what I already have!

Do you know if there is a certain amount you have to spend at Shoppers before they can give you samples? What if you use Optimum points? I'm too shy to ask and would love to know for the next time I splurge - which will probably when I find a job! Lol.

I think it's worth shopping at Shoppers more than Sephora, their rewards program is much better! Points from anything can be spent on full size cosmetics, while at Sephora, you have to spend $100 to get a "deluxe sample"! But I do like the idea of the value packs at Sephora.

    1. you know what, I am late to the party with the whole optimum points thing! I have never even redeemed any, because I don't shop during their optimum point sales. I will start doing this because you're right, I have to spend an entire hundy at Sephora just to get one free sample which seems kind of pitiful if I could get in store credit toward anything I pleased from Shoppers.

I don't know how they decide how many samples to give, the sales lady was just very kind and talkative and was like "would you like some samples" and of course I said YES! and she opened this cupboard that had a bunch of bins with different stuff in them! I was like :D :D :D :D

    2. Hehe that's awesome! Which shoppers were you at if you don't mind me asking?

I have the Optimum Mastercard, so for every purchase with it - anywhere, for anything, it gives me Optimum points! I was really apprehensive at first because I tend to not trust any of those people who stand around and try to sell you stuff. But my mom told me to get it when the lady at Shoppers kept following us and was trying to talk us into it. But after a couple months or a year, I was really impressed at how many points I've accumulated because I rarely even went to Shoppers. I think I got it 2 years ago and I have a bunch of points and haven't used it yet. I totally recommend it!

    1. I am not very good at using highlighters, so I don't think I am getting the full idea on sun beam. I might have to watch some youtube videos on this product!

  14. What a great haul! I find myself a little disappointed with essie's formula sometimes as well. You should try the makeup counter at Rexall the SA's there always give me 4-5 samples

    1. hmm I don't think I have a Rexall in my city! I've seen some in smaller towns that I've driven through to get to the cottage, maybe I'll stop into one sometime.

  15. Oh good, I'm not the only one that despises Essie's nail polish brushes! Your mom must have loved you! Those are some great Mother's Day gifts! What a thoughtful daughter you are ;-)

  16. I love the color of the Turquoise & Caicos polish, I actually don't own any Essie nail polishes since I pretty recently got into doing my nails more.
I've really wanted to try the Porefessional primer (I actually don't even have a face primer! Dx) since I've heard really good things about it and the They're Real! mascara.
Great buys, that's so sweet! (:

  17. Such a pretty shade - I have been eyeing this one off. Now you've given me the final push to go grab it! I'm not a big fan of the brushes either.

Great haul! I really want Sun Beam and They're Real.
