REVIEW: Marcelle BB Cream

I have been meaning to try a BB cream for a while now. I've never been a huge fan of tinted moisturizers simply because my skin requires a lot more than 'tint'. I need paste ;) also known as concealer. However, BB creams intrigue me with their wide array of claims.
In my April Glossybox I got a little sample of Marcelle's BB cream ($22.99/45g) which I quite liked, and I'd already read a positive review of it over at Cosmetic Proof so I decided I might just pick up a tube for myself.
I stopped into Shoppers Drugmart and lo and behold, the BB cream was on sale for $18.99! It is usually $22.99 so I couldn't pass up the deal. Marcelles BB cream comes in two shades, light to medium, and medium to dark. I swatched both shades and decided to go with light to medium. I looked and saw there was only one tube of this shade left! And tons of medium to dark tubes! It was fate, and I happily purchased the tube.

All the claims that Marcelle's BB cream makes: it is an 8 in 1 cream! Wow.

Marcelle BB Cream in Light to Medium
When I was playing with the sample I received, I applied it all over my face without any moisturizer. After all, it claims it can be used in place of your daily moisturizer! It worked out to look lovely on my face except for the drier parts (my chin, nose area). In the dry areas, the BB cream did not provide enough moisture and the tinted colour stuck to the dry skin giving a very unattractive look. I promptly cleaned it off, and applied my daily moisturizer and then a layer of the BB cream over top, and this gave me the look I was going for: minimized pores, and an even skin tone. This BB cream is sheer and will not cover up acne, so concealer is still needed. For someone with flawless acne free skin, BB cream would be all they need- no foundation, powder or concealer required! Unfortunately for me, that is not the case.
I bought this to use on my cheeks/nose/forehand to even out my skin tone, and minimize my pores. I cannot use it with great success on my chin because it is acne prone so I use retin-A which keeps it pretty dry. My concealer and powder work well for that area though.

Face With Marcelle BB Cream

Here is a comparison for you! On the left, I have nothing on my face. On the right, I have just the BB cream on my face. As you can see, my pores are minimized, and my skin tone is more even.

And for another comparison, here we are: The left side of my face is bare, and the right side has Marcelle's BB cream.

Overall, I think this is a great product! It wears well during the day, and although it claims to stay matte, I do find shine seeps through as I wear it. However, for those blessed with less greasy skin, I have no doubt that it would stay matte. This is an excellent product and I am very happy with the results! What is your favourite brand of BB cream?

    1. did you get the light to medium? yes you might need a different brand, it is supposed to match all light to medium skin tones, but I know that a few other people have said certain Canadian brands are too dark for their fair skin as well.

  5. I've been trying to find the perfect bb cream. I have noticed that if you tend to be on the dryer side no matter what a moisturizer underneath is a must. Thanks for the review on this I had not yet heard of it :)

    1. yes it is a Canadian brand so if you're in the USA I don't know if they sell it there?

  7. I've been wanting to try out a BB cream for a while! This one looks like it has impressive results! I think that I would like to try an Asian brand as well. I also watched the new Stila version at Shoppers and it blurred out all the little lines in my hand!...too many choices. lol

    1. I've heard mixed reviews on the Garnier one- it isn't the best for oily skin types apparently, so it wouldn't be great for me!

    1. yes try it out and see what you think! its supposed to work for all light to medium skin tones but if you're lighter than light, it might not be a good match!

  11. Really wanted to try this as I love Marcelle but I think it's too dark for me. The Garnier light shade was too dark.. I like that American brands are taking a stab at BB creams but I hate that they're taking the 1-2 shade thing as well. It's never light enough for me! But I guess it's fair since the Asian brands tend to be too light for a lot of Westeners.
