BRAND SPOTLIGHT: Cake Beauty

I want to start a new series on my blog where I highlight great Canadian cosmetic companies that use natural ingredients and/or eco-friendly packaging. I think that it is very important to incorporate as much natural products into your skincare and makeup routine as possible. Many brands use very scary ingredients in their cosmetics- things that are poisonous and toxic! Our skin is our largest organ, and it will consume anything you apply topically, or ingest via your mouth/eyes. All these chemicals can wreak havoc on our biochemistry, and the more you're exposed, the more endocrine disruptors your body has to deal with. In the USA, the FDA only tests 11% of the 10,500 ingredients approved for safe use in cosmetics (Master Your Metabolism, J. Michaels). Ingredients like mercury, lead, toluene, formaldehyde, parabens, placenta, phthalates, and triclosan are all lurking in some of your drug store and department store branded cosmetics.

There are some fantastic CANADIAN cosmetic companies that are focused on using safe, natural ingredients without compromising the quality of their products. I enjoy buying Made-In-Canada because I prefer our regulations for safety over that on the USA's, even though we're not perfect either. I also love to support Canadian-born businesses.

The first BRAND SPOTLIGHT I have chosen is: Cake Beauty
Cake Beauty is a brand that focuses on making delectable bath and body products. All of their products smell absolutely amazing and are free of parabens, sodium chloride, phthalates, GMO's, mineral oil, petrolatum, gluten and triclosan. They have a wide range of products, from their Milk Made soothing white sugar body scrub, made with whole milk, white sugar, cocoa butter, shea butter and coconut oil, to their absolutely delicious scented hand creams, such as Lemon Chiffon, Cake Walk and It's a Slice, all of which are supremely rich and soothing, but not at all sticky or greasy. All products from Cake Beauty have 90-95% natural ingredients.

One of my all-time favourite, must-have products from Cake Beauty is their dry shampoo! Called "Satin Sugar", their powdered dry shampoo comes in three shades: glistening, which is translucent and illuminating, a shade for lighter hair, and a shade for darker hair. Scented of baked lemon sugar, this dry shampoo adds amazing volume to limp hair. It absorbs grease with ease, and it also leaves your hair smelling lovely! I have been using this dry shampoo since high school and I will never stop loving it! When I had blonde highlights, I would use the shade for lighter coloured hair on my roots to lighten them up in between colour treatments and it was a God send!

Cake beauty does not sell a ton of makeup. They sell lipglosses and balms, which are delicious and safe to use on your lips without worrying about consuming chemicals. However, they mainly focus on hand and body lotions, shower scrubs, and bath and shower treaties.

More reasons to LOVE Cake beauty? Cake products use the bare minimum when it comes to packaging- no excess or secondary packaging for their products! When it comes to manufacturing, 80% of Cake's lotions are cold processed, which means less energy is being consumed when producing Cake's product! This reduces their carbon footprint. Their products are made with 90-95% natural ingredients that are derived from sustainable and renewable resources, and they NEVER test on animals. Importantly, all products from Cake are manufactured in Canada, which means they are supporting their local economy and keeping their carbon footprint low by reducing shipment times for their products.

Any time I have placed an online order with Cake Beauty, I have received prompt and courteous service- they always ship items out quickly and well-packaged. Their products are effective, they smell absolutely gorgeous, and they're good for you! It is a win all around :) If you want to check out Cake Beauty, go to their website. You can order online! They are also sold in Sephora and other independent retailers.  They sell very affordable gift sets that are perfect for Christmas or Birthdays!

Have you tried Cake Beauty? Tell me about your favourite products from them!

  3. Love this little segment you've created! Such a good way to make people aware of Canadian Brands:) I was so sad, I went to that store that said they sold Cake products (the store was listed on cake's site) and I found out that they only carried it a couple years back for Christmas :( Everything from this brand looks soooo decadent and delicious !

    1. oh my gosh, all their stuff smells so yummy! I love giving their products to people as gifts because I feel like they're so indulgent- who wouldn't like them? The only people who might have issues with their stuff are those with high sensitivities to scent, but they DO sell unscented lotions too!

    1. It is back in stock!! I want to order some so badly, even though I do NOT need any more body lotions or creams at all. I have a problem with hoarding these things haha.
I didn't know that the slant was for ergonomic hand positioning! how clever.

  12. 3 Studies SHOW Why Coconut Oil Kills Waist Fat.

This means that you actually get rid of fat by consuming coconut fats (also coconut milk, coconut cream and coconut oil).

These 3 researches from large medical journals are sure to turn the conventional nutrition world around!
