REVIEW: benefit 'the POREfessional'

benefit's 'the POREfessional'
Benefit's the POREfessional ($34.00/22 ml) has been getting a lot of hype lately. It seems to be a hot topic at beauty counters, on beauty blogs and amongst makeup junkies. It is a silky balm that is meant to minimize the appearance of pores. It looks slightly peach in colour out of the tube, but goes on translucent. It has a light floral scent. I found the price of this product to be a little outlandish. It is a very tiny tube of product for the price, especially if you're applying it to your entire face daily!

I have very noticeable pores. They are larger than I'd like them to be on my cheeks. I have been using this product to minimize the look of my pores, and it works okay, but it isn't anything special to me. I have used bb creams that do just as good a job (Marcelles BB cream is my fave!) and I have used other pore minimizers like Tarte's Smooth Operator which work much better.
I like that this product can be used as a primer. It leaves my face feeling silky smooth and ready for makeup application. However, it is no miracle product, and for the price, I would rather have Tarte's Smooth Operator, which minimizes my pores and keeps my face matte! The POREfessional does not make me break out, which is something to note- it is very light weight on the skin, and not greasy at all. It will leave your skin looking matte after application, but it does not help with long term shine control.
The overall verdict? I would pass on this product. I think there are better options out there for pore minimization, and the price is very steep for a product that is just okay. However, I still LOVE benefit and think they're an amazing brand ;)
Tell me what you think of the POREfessional? Love it, hate it?

  1. I love this product! I only use it for touch up on small pores around my lip area, between my eyebrows and around my nose. It makes a nice difference for me. It doesn't make a difference on my larger pores in my cheek area, though. I love the feel of it..and I hate the price lol. I will have to try out smooth operator.

    1. Yes, the feel is very nice and silky! but it is way over priced for what it does, IMO! Tarte's smooth operator is the same price, but will last much longer (its powder and you barely need any!). It works much better at minimizing pores and keeping my skin matte. I still like the POREfessional, but I don't think its worth the price!

  2. I was considering this product before but I had seen some reviews that it would make you break out, which lead to me straying far away from the idea of getting it. Though I guess that isn't the case for you. I seem to see you talking about Marcelles BB Cream very often, it makes me so interested in it!
I've never tried a BB Cream so I'm not quite sure what to expect with them, but your review of it is tempting me.

    1. Yes this product didn't trigger any break outs for me and I do have acne prone skin. Marcelle's bb cream is awesome! but you can't get it in the USA. however, there are tons of bb creams on the market now, you just have to find one that is right for you!

  3. I certainly love the feel of it, but you're right, it IS expensive for what it is and I have tried a couple of other pore minimizers that work just as well. I think I just like the packaging! P.S. I ordered Smooth Operator so that should be coming in the mail soon!

  4. I was considering buying this product, but it is so expensive here in Australia! $53 for the same size.
I think I might check out Tarte smooth operator instead.

  5. I went to the Loose Button party they had a couple months ago and a couple Benefit Reps were there helping people try out the product.. he put a little dab of this on my hand and my skin felt soo soft! I'm thinking for me it would be nice to use this around my nose area.. but am I going to run out and buy this..no.. eventually maybe but not something I'm in dire need to have!

  6. I would love to get a sample of this before splurging, but I think the MAC primer (Prep +Prime SPF 50) might just be better for me, however, I still have a primer going so no new ones for me! I only have one item from Benefit, ohh soo pretty but soo expensive :P

    1. I have lots of primers too! I love CoverFX's primer for acne-prone skin though, it is my absolute fave! I have tons of other ones too. I agree with you- no more primers for me 'til I use mine all up! haha.

  8. I have the porefessional as well - it does work well for me, but I agree the price is pretty steep for what you get. I typically only wear it when I know I'm gonna be needing more coverage with my makeup.

    1. I am glad to have saved you some money! for pore minimization and shine I would definitely say Tarte's Smooth Operator, and for redness perhaps a tinted moisturizer or bb cream and concealer where needed? that's how I do it!
