GLOSSYBOX - July 2012

On the very last day of July, my July Glossybox made it to my front door!! I was very surprised, because Glossybox had stated on their Facebook page that they were not expecting their subscribers to receive their boxes until the first week of August! I credit Canada Post for getting it to me so quickly- thanks CP :)

For those of you who are new to beauty boxes, Glossybox is one of Canada's subscription beauty boxes. Alongside Glymm, Julep, Luxe and Topbox, Glossybox charges a monthly fee and sends out packages of deluxe beauty samples, such as lotions, makeup, nail care or skin care items right to your door step. Glossybox comes in a gorgeous, sturdy pale pink box that is completely re-usable for giving gifts or personal storage. Glossybox charges $15.00/month for their service- more than Glymm and Topbox. However, they promise to send "5 luxury product samples from high-end brands " in every box.
July 2012 Glossybox

In my July Glossybox I received:
Zoya Nail Lacquer in KIMBER (15 ml/full size) (retails for $8.00)
Alessandro International Pedix Heel Rescue Balm (30 ml) (full size retails for $19.95/100ml)
John Freida Frizz-Ease Sheer Solution (10 ml) (full size retails for $14.99/60ml)
Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer in Cherry (2.6g/full size) (retails for $5.99)
Dove Softening Creme Bodywash (200ml/full size) (retails for $5.99)
*bonus item: Beautysoclean Sanitizer Wipes (4 wipes) (48 pack retails for $12.50)
Dove Softening Creme Body Wash

Zoya KIMBER
Alessandro International Pedix Heel Rescue Balm
Compared to last months box, which was chock full of drugstore branded products, this box is a drastic improvement. I dislike Dove as a brand and I do not want their junky body wash that is full of chemicals but I will find a home for it elsewhere. I am very excited to try the Heel Rescue Balm, which contains tea tree oil! I love tea tree. It also comes in adorable blue packaging, which I appreciate!
The tiny little Frizz-Ease sample will definitely be well enjoyed by my hair, but I did see that other Glossybox subscribers got a full-sized John Freida hair lightening spray. I assume that I did not receive this based on my beauty profile, since I do not have blonde hair. However, this is a pretty big sample disparity to go from a full-sized lightening spray to a tiny 10ml sample of hair serum?
I love the Zoya polish colour I received although it does remind me of OPI's 'I'm all ears'. The only difference is that 'I'm all ears' has pink micro glitter and 'Kimber' has gold micro glitter. I do think it is a unique shade that is perfect for summer time- good job, Glossybox! The Burt's Bees lip shimmer was a nice addition- much better than past Glossybox lip colours we have received! I like Burt's Bees as a brand because they're all natural :) Lastly, we got more beautysoclean wipes, which we already received in a past box. I used them all up, so I am not offended to receive this sample again, especially as a bonus item.

Overall, I am very happy with my July box! The only complaint I have is that Glossybox ships their boxes out so late into the month. They have said on their Facebook page that they aim to send the boxes out in the last week of every month, meaning that some subscribers will get their boxes in the following month. I think they need to work on changing this, rather than stating it will be that way. They have time to bill us at the very beginning of the month, so why not work on shipping the boxes out in a more timely manner? Besides this little annoyance, I am very happy with July's box! I can use everything I received (minus the cheap Dove bodywash).

Have you received your July box yet? Thoughts?

  6. My beauty needs are very particular because of my sensitive skin. Looks like Glossybox would be too much of a hit or miss for a monthly $15 subscription. I do like the Zoya polish and the Burt's Bees lip shimmer (I own a few myself and swear by them).

    1. yes, it does add up to a lot of money in a year if you consistently get products you do not want! but Glossybox has a pretty good track record with me.

  8. Finally got my shipping notification ( I live north of Toronto). Just curious, what "version" were you sent? According to my shipping notification, I am a V2 (last month I was a V1). And I wonder if everyone receiving the the same version will get the same thing?

  16. This is my first month with Glossy Box. I've been scouring the blogosphere to see what the contents are! I'm pretty impressed. Now just to get it to the Maritimes! My tracking number says Friday, but being the long weekend, I probably won't actually get it until Tuesday and then I'm going to enjoy the little box of beauty! Thanks for the review!

  17. Pretty good box IMO. The Burts Bees is awesome! I'm V3 and should be receiving my box today.. I wonder what the difference will be

    1. I think V3 doesn't get a Burts Bees product, but rather another body cream - that is what I read on the Glossybox page :/

  18. I used to get Glossy box in the UK. I like the idea but to be honest I ended up with a bunch of stuff I wouldn't have bought myself and ended up giving away most of it to people for christmas, but it is a super duper fun idea :-) I absolutely LOVED the boxes though, they came in a different colour every month (not sure if it's the same with yours) and I kept all the boxes to store things in. So pretty

  19. I got a little more frizz control solution but I ended up without the burt bees lip balm. It's unfortunate because I was looking forward to that. The lip balm was probably the only thing I wanted to use.

  25. Pretty color of polish!! I was avoiding your post until my box came today only 2 days away from my b-day lol.. I was hoping for a little better of a box! I am a V3.. We did not get the Burts Bees lip balm which sucks .. Instead we got a tiny free size sample of a lotion for dry skin. We also recieved the Frizz Ease.. So that is 2 full size products we missed out on.. I do love zoya alot so I was happy to get that. The color I received is Lara a blue toned pink cream which is one I do not own!! :)

  26. Kimber looks like such a lovely color! i got a baby pink called Shelby. i don't really care for Glossybox's idea of including full size drugstore items - especially body washes since i hardly ever use them...

  27. Hi,
I got my glossybox this morning:) my first beauty box! well, it differs a little bit from yours. That John Freida serum came in 24ml pack and unfortunately, I didn't get the lipstick. Instead, I got a sample cream by Eucerin (5ml).

    ReplyDelete
  28. I got the same nail polish as you :) And I have to agree with the Dove body wash.. I tried it this morning and it had such a strong scent and covered me in sparkles all day. Won't be reusing. I didn't get my box till August 3rd! Glossybox should almost not charge us a month.. skip August and just call the next box Septembers box since I doubt I will receive it before the end of August! I know people say they are new and that is why they are so late but Topbox was new.. and they got it right without months of trial and error. I dunno not trying to be a Debbie Downer just saying :)
