TOPBOX - July 2012

I just got my June Glossybox last Tuesday, and bright and early this morning the doorbell rang with my July Topbox! I am nonstop impressed with this subscription service. Topbox is always prompt with their delivery, and their customer service leaves absolutely nothing to be desired!
For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, Topbox is one of Canada's subscription beauty box programs. For only $10 a month (plus tax) you get a lovely box filled with premium cosmetic samples delivered right to your door. You can usually expect four samples per month, although sometimes you get more! What I really love about Topbox is that they know who they are as a brand. They consistently provide high-end or luxury branded samples, and you can almost always expect a full-sized product in your box!
As is to be expected, my parcel was very carefully wrapped in order to ensure safe travelling. Everything came in perfect condition.
In my July Topbox I received:
China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Innocence (full sized) (retails for $12.00/14ml)
NUME Style Hydro Punch Shampoo (20ml) (full sized retails for $24.99/250ml)
Pure+Simple Calming Cucumber Mask (20ml) (full sized retails for $25.25/50ml)
Sampar Essentials Ultra Hydrating Fluid (4ml) (full sized retails for $80.00/50ml)
+ a bonus item: $100.00 gift card for NUME styling products and hair extensions on their website
July '12 Topbox
Sampar Essentials Ultra Hydrating Fluid

Sampar Essentials Ultra Hydrating Fluid is a moisturizing fluid that is meant for all ages and skin types. It is supposed to provide long-lasting hydration and antioxidant protection. I have not heard of this brand before! It is from a Parisian company, and it is branded to protect, resurface and moisturize facial skin. It is made with mint, so I am excited to try it out- I love anything mint scented!
China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Innocence

I am very familiar with the China Glaze brand. They make lovely polishes, and I love getting full-sized nail polishes in my beauty box subscriptions! Innocence is a pale pink that will look very natural on the nail. I will definitely enjoy using this when I want a subdued look. This was a personalized shade picked out specially for me based on my beauty profile! I am looking forward to seeing what other colours subscribers received.
Pure+Simple Calming Cucumber Mask
I am very excited to try out the Pure+Simple mask! It is a very decent sample size that should last me quite a while! It is made with all natural ingredients like Vegetal Collagen, cucumber extract and Indian senna seed extract to relieve irritation and redness while cooling and firming the skin. I think this would be a great mask to use after being in the sun a little bit too long because it sounds very soothing! This is a Canadian company, which makes me even more excited to try it!
NUME Hydrating Shampoo
I have seen a lot of NUME products in other beauty subscription boxes, and I wasn't overly thrilled to receive this. It came with a $100.00 gift card for their website (which they have also given to other beauty box subscribers like Glymm), but I have heard from many others that you can get their high-priced straighteners and curling wands at discount stores like Winners for much, much cheaper than what they sell them for on their website. I would absolutely not use this giftcard because I think that this brand isn't that great of quality. The shampoo sample is made with "sage oil, bamboo extract and argan oil from Morocco", with no parabens, SLS or paraffins. The Argan oil is 16th on the ingredient list, the bamboo extract is 17th on the ingredient list, and the sage oil is dead last as the 26th and final ingredient in the shampoo. I don't know how many effects these ingredients will really have on my hair in such small quantities but I will try the sample out because shampoo is shampoo to me!
Overall, I think this was a nice box- it came with a very great variety of samples which I really appreciate! I love that I get to try new brands with Topbox, and that the sample sizes are usually pretty decent so you can figure out if you really like a product enough to purchase it!
Topbox is currently on a 4-5 month waiting list, so if you are at all interested in getting a subscription you should go to their website and get on the wait list today! If you want to get a beauty box subscription NOW and not wait for a Topbox, I strongly recommend Glossybox- I have some reviews of their boxes, check it out here.

  1. Do you have a favourite from you BB subscriptions? I feel like Glossybox easily steals that title for me. I'm so in love with their boxes. I was on the waiting list for Top Box for a while but overall I decided I didn't need them all and stuck with just two.

    1. Topbox is absolutely my #1 favourite subscription!! They are the best, honestly. You get way better brands, the customer service is better, it costs LESS and it ships at a decent time.
Glossybox is definitely second, but they do leave something to be desired for me. I like Topbox because they provide higher end samples to try out, which is really the whole reason I wanted beauty boxes to begin with! I don't need samples of biore or neutrogena products that I can buy for $3 on sale at the drug store. If I am curious about drug store products, I will just buy the full sized with little to lose.

  3. Fantastic box! I love the nail polish you received - so wearable and practical (unlike some other polishes I've received in other beauty boxes). I'm so tempted to give Top Box a try!

  4. Yea I got that same NuMe sample + GC in the Glymm box as well. The sample smells so terrible (in my opinion) that I had to rewash my hair because I couldnt stand the smell. I still havent used the GC because like you said, you can buy their straighteners at Winners for much, much cheaper. I wanted to get some feather extensions from their site, but the giftcard doesnt work for that. Sigh.

That China Glaze color is gorgeous! CG is my favorite nail polish brand :D

  6. This looks like a nice box, but it doesn't look amazing to me. I love the full size polish, but I would have like to see a more interesting colour other than pale pink!

    1. well the colours are matched to our beauty profiles- for me, I was very happy to get this colour! but for someone who likes brighter colours, I am sure they got something more exciting ;)

  7. I love that China Glaze color. I was really into nudish pinks for the Spring but haven't wore any all Summer. It really makes me want to go paint my nails with a similar color. haha

    2. NO idea..I just keep getting those emails saying my card was charged 0.00. :(

    3. oh darn! when I signed up they gave me the date on which my subscription would be fulfilled! :(

    4. That's really bizarre. :/ I'm going to email them and ask WTF, cause I'm going on 6 months...and they said they were up to people who tried signing up in Feb like 3 months ago and that the wait was only 2-3 months then.

    5. I too am getting sick and tired of waiting for topbox since March. I get BB5, which has greatly improved last couple of months and I like it bcuz its from US and always has items I am not familiar with or wont get in other boxes! I also get Glossy Box Glymm and Luxebox so maybe thats enough. I was annoyed with Topbox as twice they accidentally charged and then credited my card, apparently I signed up twice or something. The other time happened as I was updating my card info. Anyway when I asked they were a bit curt abot waiting my turn felt like I was being chastised....oh well maybe i desrved it I think I said something like cxome on I have been charges twice just go ahead I wont tell, promise...maybe I deserved it, who knows if I will ever get the chance now.

  11. I love the polish you got! Much more my speed, I think. Mine was this bright neon pink! Still love it though x

    1. I asked for a neutral colour- did you ask for neon? or did you get a chance to fill out the customization survey at all?

  12. My box was identical with the exception of the nail polish. I specified in the survey that I would like a neon color and got the most amazing shade of fushia called Purple Panic Neon- It looks amazing on my toes screams summertime (I use clear or nude shades on my fingers but for toes wanted something on the wilder side)
I love TopBox and would rank it my first choice with Glossybox second. Gave up on Glymm and LuxeBox months ago as the quality is too inconsistent.

    1. I agree with you! Topbox is the best but Glossybox is good too, I can't bring myself to cancel it even though I told myself I would when I got my first topbox! now I get two boxes of goodies every month :) glymm isn't worth my time, I am never impressed with what they send out.

  15. I'm still on the waitlist for Topbox, since February. Everything in this box looks great, aside from the Nume. I received a conditioner in another beauty box (Glymm I think), and was not impressed. It did absolutely nothing for my hair, and afterward it felt like I hadn't used conditioner at all!

    1. yes I am not a fan of nume either. I wish beauty boxes wouldn't send it out, I feel like its a scam of a company honestly!

      Delete
  16. What I am grateful for is that I already had the Nume conditioner from Glymm, so now it has a mate in the shampoo! I think paying that much for their products is a total ripoff and having all those "good" ingredients at the bottom of the list is disappointing...

    1. yes, I have noticed with a lot of shampoos, they claim to have so many great ingredients but when you look at the actual ingredient list, there are minuscule amounts of said ingredients in the actual formula! that's why I don't usually buy into expensive shampoos. I don't notice a real difference in my hair!

  17. Your right.. Topbox really knows who they are and are consistant.. I think that is why they are so popular.. can't wait for mine to come.. one day haha

  18. I just had a facial at pure and simple last week, so I would have loved that sample! Just got my email that I'm finally off the wait list and August will be my first! Like you, I gave up on Glymm and LuxeBox and recently dropped Glossy (although I liked it, mostly) because the amount of samples I have in my bathroom is bordering ludicrous!
