TOPBOX - September 2012

Today when I arrived home from classes, my Topbox was waiting for me in the mailbox! I just love the small size of Topbox- the fact that it fits in the mailbox makes it very convenient as you never have to run to the post office to collect it!
For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, Topbox is one of Canada's subscription beauty box programs. For only $10 a month (plus tax) you get a lovely box filled with premium cosmetic samples delivered right to your door. You can usually expect four samples per month, although sometimes you get more! What I really love about Topbox is that they know who they are as a brand. They consistently provide high-end or luxury branded samples, and you can almost always expect a full-sized product in your box!

In my September Topbox I received:
Benefit They're Real! Mascara (3.0 g) (full size retails for $29.00/8.5g)
REDKEN Color Extend Shampoo and Conditioner (two sample packets of each at 10ml a piece) (full size shampoo retails for $15.00/300ml; full size conditioner retails for $17.00/250ml)
M.Asam Perfect Teint Primer (5ml) (full size retails for $42.00/50ml)
Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator (20g) (full size retails for $34.00/120ml)

**I will note that Topbox changed their product cards this month! They now include information on where you can buy the full-size version of each sample, which is great!

September 2012 Topbox

M.Asam Primer and Benefit They're Real! mascara

REDKEN shampoo and conditioner samples, Vasanti Face Rejuvenator
This may be the first Topbox I've received in a while where I didn't get a full-sized sample item. Of course, that isn't expected but it is always welcome!
I was very excited for the trial size benefit mascara- I love benefit as a brand and their mascaras are awesome! I don't have any They're Real! in my stash at the moment so this was very welcome. I would say this was the stand-out sample for me in September's Topbox. The M.Asam primer sample looks very thick- much thicker than other primers I use. I love primers by CoverFX personally. I tried the M.Asam primer out quickly and it left my skin feeling very greasy. It is also scented, which is a big negative for me as it is a mature scent that I don't particularly enjoy.
The REDKEN samples were nothing special- at least Topbox gave us two of each so we can try them out more than once to see if we enjoy the product. Sadly, I don't have colour treated hair so the benefits this shampoo and conditioner tote will be lost on me. Lastly, the Vasanti face rejuvenator sounds interesting. It is supposed to improve the texture of the skin with papaya enzymes, microcrystals and aloe vera. To use it, you rub it into your face like you would a cleanser, then wash away.
This Topbox had a wide variety of cosmetics, skincare and hair care items, which is nice. Overall I am happy with Septembers box, although it cannot compare to some of the other Topboxes I've received in the past.
I noticed on the Facebook page that Topbox recently took on a lot of new subscribers for October- I am anxiously awaiting the October box to see if the quality of the samples changes at all due to this!!

Topbox is currently on a waiting list, so if you are at all interested in getting a subscription you should go to their website and get on the wait list today! If you want to get a beauty box subscription NOW and not wait for a Topbox, I strongly recommend Glossybox- I have some reviews of their boxes, check it out here.

  1. I am always amazed at how fast you get yours! I love how the Topbox fits in my itty bitty mailbox too. The Benefit mascara is pretty awesome and I have two of the M.Asam primers from past Glymm boxes and they are pretty greasy even for me...hope school is going well!

    1. I think it helps that I live so close to Toronto :P It doesn't have to travel too far! I am blessed in that manner.
I am so happy with the benefit sample- I'd love a benefit sample in every box! haha. I wonder who this primer is made for? Those with the dryest skin on earth apparently!!!
School is SO hectic, Jayne! You have no idea! I am doing an accelerated program (it's a year when it usually takes 2-3 years) and I am drowning already! It takes away from my blog as I'm sure you've noticed.

    2. I'm not sure if I'm alone on this one but this is quite a difference from what we usually receive. This box seems on par with what the old luxebox gave which i unsubscribed from back in may. I hope this wasn't due to the increase in members. Luxebox had that problem. When members went up customer service and the boxes went to the wayside. I got the same as you so I was not impressed. Only sample I liked was the mascara but i already own the full size so useless to me. Looking forward to next month box and hoping we see the same topbox quality we are used to not what I refer to as luxebox quality.

    3. I think it did stand out that there were no full-sized samples this month, Aria. However I know not to expect a full-size sample every month. I think that this isn't Topboxes best output but I am still pleased with the samples personally and I hope next month will be even better!
You're right about luxebox and the increase in memberships affecting the quality- I really, REALLY hope that isn't the case for Topbox!

    4. OMG, you're doing an accelerated program and working? Well, it'll be over before you know it that's for sure, but if it's what you want to do, it's worth it! I'll be thinking of you!

  2. This is really disappointing. The Benefit is awesome, but anything beyond that I have had in other boxes.

    1. :( I have to agree that this wasn't my favourite box but I am not disappointed personally! I like the variety of product samples, although the primer is definitely not something I'll use.

  4. Hey, came across your blog looking for the September Topbox review. Thanks for posting, mine got delivered today but I wont be able to go home and open it for a while so I decided to cheat instead, haha.

  5. I will get my first topbox next month and I have to say I would be disappointed not to receive any full-size sample. I have been on their wait-list for so long and I feel like the previous topbox were way better than this one...

  6. It is kind of disappointing that you don't get any full-sized products. But you'll like the Benefit You're Real mascara. I love mine. I am still on the waiting list for Topbox. Patiently waiting :)

  7. I definitely think Top Box is the best Canadian beauty box out there right now. To receive well-known brands like Benefit in addition to lesser-known brands is great. Aside from the samples for color-treated hair (not sure why you would receive that, maybe you should e-mail them and see if they can send you something more suitable?), this is a great box compared to what I've received with Glossy or Glymm box, for example.

  8. I am one of the new recipients for October so I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the quality. After months of waiting (I signed up in May), if this was my first box, honestly, I'd be disappointed. I think, between Glossy Box, Glymm and Luxe Box there's only been one time I haven't received a full-size sample. Coming to expect it I suppose. :)

  9. I got mine in the mail yesterday as well...this was my first month of Topbox and I was actually pretty dissapointed. I got a slightly different box...They're Real, the primer, Purity Made Simple cleanser, and a semi-decently sized Balenciaga Perfume. I will give them a good trial over the next few months, so we'll see :)

I just got my box but I had two items different (got a balenciaga perfume and philosophy cleanser). I do hope the October box is better but I did like my items so I can't complain!
