I have been meaning to try a BB cream for a while now. I've never been a huge fan of tinted moisturizers simply because my skin requires a lot more than 'tint'. I need paste ;) also known as concealer. However, BB creams intrigue me with their wide array of claims.
In my April Glossybox I got a little sample of Marcelle's BB cream ($22.99/45g) which I quite liked, and I'd already read a positive review of it over at Cosmetic Proof so I decided I might just pick up a tube for myself.
I stopped into Shoppers Drugmart and lo and behold, the BB cream was on sale for $18.99! It is usually $22.99 so I couldn't pass up the deal. Marcelles BB cream comes in two shades, light to medium, and medium to dark. I swatched both shades and decided to go with light to medium. I looked and saw there was only one tube of this shade left! And tons of medium to dark tubes! It was fate, and I happily purchased the tube.
All the claims that Marcelle's BB cream makes: it is an 8 in 1 cream! Wow.

I bought this to use on my cheeks/nose/forehand to even out my skin tone, and minimize my pores. I cannot use it with great success on my chin because it is acne prone so I use retin-A which keeps it pretty dry. My concealer and powder work well for that area though.

Here is a comparison for you! On the left, I have nothing on my face. On the right, I have just the BB cream on my face. As you can see, my pores are minimized, and my skin tone is more even.
Overall, I think this is a great product! It wears well during the day, and although it claims to stay matte, I do find shine seeps through as I wear it. However, for those blessed with less greasy skin, I have no doubt that it would stay matte. This is an excellent product and I am very happy with the results! What is your favourite brand of BB cream?

I've been wanting to try out a BB cream for a while now! It seems like a great alternative to foundation for the hot summer months :)
ReplyDeleteyes it definitely is! try to get one on sale like I did!
DeleteGreat review!I did really love the BB cream sample in our Glossybox but it was too dark for my skin :( I think I may need to try an Asian BB Cream.

did you get the light to medium? yes you might need a different brand, it is supposed to match all light to medium skin tones, but I know that a few other people have said certain Canadian brands are too dark for their fair skin as well.
Deletegreat review! i definitely will consider picking this up next time i need a bb cream x
ReplyDeletethanks! It is a good buy and a reasonable price too.
Deletethanks for the review! the last shot of your face with the bb cream on half of your face was really helpful! :)
ReplyDeletethank you! It was actually helpful for me to see too, I was happy with how much it minimized my pores.
DeleteI've been trying to find the perfect bb cream. I have noticed that if you tend to be on the dryer side no matter what a moisturizer underneath is a must. Thanks for the review on this I had not yet heard of it :)

yes it is a Canadian brand so if you're in the USA I don't know if they sell it there?
DeleteThis looks very interesting! I much prefer tinted moisturizers over regular foundation. I still need concealer too though. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteyes I am afraid of foundation too! it always seems to look cakey on my skin.
DeleteI've been wanting to try out a BB cream for a while! This one looks like it has impressive results! I think that I would like to try an Asian brand as well. I also watched the new Stila version at Shoppers and it blurred out all the little lines in my hand!...too many choices. lol

ooh I will check out the stila one! I decided to purchase this one after trying the sample because it works well and its cheap! haha.
DeleteGreat review! I really want to try more brands of BB cream, ever since I tried the Garnier one I'm hooked.
ReplyDeleteI've heard mixed reviews on the Garnier one- it isn't the best for oily skin types apparently, so it wouldn't be great for me!
DeleteGreat review! Love the with/without photos for comparison :) I haven't tried my glossybox marcelle cream yet but I am even more intrigued now! I hope it's not too dark on me - I am suuuuuuuuper pale!
ReplyDeleteyes try it out and see what you think! its supposed to work for all light to medium skin tones but if you're lighter than light, it might not be a good match!
DeleteWas just checking out your blog and I saw this post and thought it was funny because I just tried the bb creme from my glossybox and it was a BAD idea! Way too dark for me!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnyways lovin your blog, I just started following it
Check out mine sometime!
awww that is a shame that it was too dark! I am following you back!
DeleteReally wanted to try this as I love Marcelle but I think it's too dark for me. The Garnier light shade was too dark.. I like that American brands are taking a stab at BB creams but I hate that they're taking the 1-2 shade thing as well. It's never light enough for me! But I guess it's fair since the Asian brands tend to be too light for a lot of Westeners.
ReplyDeleteOh yayyyy! I'm so happy you like it!! You have pretty eyes :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for reviewing this BB cream. I've been curious about it for quite a while, and every time I go to Shoppers and look for it, the Light to Medium is always sold out. Hope they restock soon because I want to try it!
